Liter of Light, winner of the 2015 Energy Globe World Award in the Fire category. 

Congratulations to Liter of Light Founder and Executive Director Illac Diaz, who picked up this prestigious award on January 19, 2016 in Tehran, Iran.

The Energy Globe Award honors "outstanding sustainable best practice projects from around the world". Liter of Light was one of five top winners chosen out of 2,000 submissions from 177 countries. Thank you to all Liter of Light volunteers, partners and donors who make sustainable solar lighting possible for everyone.

Earlier this month, Aspen, Colorado joined Burlington, Vermont and Greensburg, Kansas as the third U.S. city to entirely shift to energy that is generated from natural resources - wind power, solar power and geothermal heat.

During a two-week unit, West Orange High School students in Sustainable Engineering and Engineering and Design Solutions classes will have the opportunity to build circuit boards for Liter of Light's solar bottle night lights. During the unit, the students will also learn about subjects such as solar energy solutions and the social, economic and historical background of alternative energy.

On August 2, 2015, LITER OF LIGHT volunteers gave visitors to the first Solar Energy Festival in Manila the chance to build solar Streetlights and Night lights for struggling communities in the Philippines. 

Thanks to the generosity of our partners and the hard work of students from the Technical Institute of the Philippines and the University of Santo Tomas, volunteers and visitors were able to build 150 solar streetlights that will improve the lives of villagers in Mindanao.
